Childminders

Childminders offer a home-from-home childcare setting, looking after small groups of children of different ages and from different families.  In England, registered childminders are inspected by Ofsted, who ensure that childminders provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children that they care for.  Childminders work to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

Some childminders are approved to offer funded places for 2, 3 and 4 year olds so that a child’s early years’ education can be provided with a childminder.  Please check with individual childminders to find out if they are able to offer this.
